I don't like Hopkins stroke. Too short and jerky. And he explodes with body english after almost every shot. I don't know how anxious people like that play well. Oh well, completely my opinion.
Disgusting run by Hohmann. I can't imagine how tiring and crushing the pressure must have been. Good action on the final table.

How can you argue with Hopkins' stroke, he's a 400 ball straight pool runner and he's always used the same stroke. I'm thinkin' about trying it.

Great match and a good job on the score keeping. I was there, in fact in the video and seeing it from the camer side gives the PRO quality of the match a good and different perspective. Nice job.

Great match to watch. John and Jeorge did a good job commentating.
My only problem with the video was the camera work -- since you only had one camera for this event -- I would have rather the camera just be at a fixed position more of the time, with less wondering off to focusing in on things (players, balls, etc) -- like when Hohmann shot the stack-combo 14 ball, I didn't get to see how the entire rack reacted because the camera was focused in on the ball that Hohmann was shooting. I'm not saying don't do it at all, just be more selective...
Aside from that, the video was one of the best online watches ever - I enjoyed the whole hour and a half, and usually my attention span isn't that long.

I also wanted to tape Jasmin, but unfortunately her match was at the same time as this one. And Hohmann-Hopkins was the marquee matchup, and the one to tape.
Jasmin was playing Orcullo on the table to the left. If you watch this video closely, you can see Jasmin step into the frame a couple of times.

What you describe is typical of a computer with connectivity problems. Do a full virus/trojan/spyware scan and also make sure that you have the latest Flash player. The link for Flash is on the front page.

This is a beautiful match to watch. However, having seen and played Hopkins myself, I agree he uses a rather jerky stroke to recommend emulating. He's a great player, and the fact is that pros put so many more hours into practicing that some do get away with certain, let's call them, idiosyncracies. Watching this match alone would suffice to prove two things: that with his quality of stroke Hopkins needs to play picture-perfect patterns (which is exactly what he does, same as many old-timers who grew up playing Straight Pool, Rotation, One Pocket etc.), and that a superior stroke (watch Hohmann's!) will get you out of trouble every once in a while. Of course you can run 400+ playing great patterns or being a super shot maker using a great stroke, but ideally, why not try and be able to achieve both? From that perspective, Hohmann is an exponent of a modern generation of players who will have a go at (almost) anything to keep their breaks going, and yes, of course modern equipment (the balls in particular) favours this kind of style (including getting too straight on his break shots - a Mosconi would have tried to avoid that at all cost). None of what I'm pointing out here takes away from these two great champions, on the contrary. I say, watch and learn from Hohmann's stroke and Hopkins's patterns, and enjoy this great match.

I agree with you Onepocket, I just think its strange how much amateurs (myself included) point out flaws in pros technique. There are such a wide variety of strokes that pros use but all that matters is that they hit exactly where they want on the cue ball. Efren Reyes, Allen Hopkins, Mike Davis, Julie Kelly, all greatly vary in there stroke technique but I can't say that I don't like there stroke. Its just not an opinion that a amateur player should voice about a seasoned veteran and champion like Hopkins.

Don't mistake rythem, timing, and tempo for a jerky stroke. Secretareat had one of the best strides in horse racing, but I haven't seen any runners getting down on all fours to try that style. As long as you can deliver the cue tip to execute what your mind's eye wants to do, stay with it. You don't get points for looking pretty, but if you are consistant, you will improve.
Hopkins is a hundred ball runner, Hohman is a hundred ball runner, yet both look totally different and play different patterns. In Europe, in 14.1 they run the last 5 balls in rotation with the highest # ball as the breake ball every rack. Try that to improve your game. You must decide way in advance what your break ball will be. Now that is a challenge. Good luck and best of rolls to ya all.

That was such a good match, thank you PPV for sharing 14/1 with us . I just love that game, that's fascinating me! Ohmann and Hopkins are two great champions, that's a pleasure to watch them play.
So about Hopkins' stroke,i have to say that i don't find it beautiful. And i don't see why amateurs shouldn't say what they think about that. When you're learning pool, the first thing you learn is "no body english!, and only forearm moves". Hopkins breaks those two basic rules, and so it is natural to be surprised by his stroke. Does that mean that is not a good player? No, as i said, he is a great champion, but he has a stroke that i don't like. And that's all.
Very good job again from PPV's staff!

He has a stroke you don't like? Why don't you like it? Does it have any negative effect on you? You think Hopkins' should go back and start redoing his stroke? Does that stroke keep you up at night? Maybe you don't understand why he's so good even though his stroke isn't as pretty as yours and that bothers you.

....i didn't knew that a discussion about the stroke of a player could be so agressive...
So, why don't i like his stroke : It's short, jerky, with a lot of body english, that's horrible to watch.
Does it has any negative effect on me? No no, that's just horrible to watch.
Should he go back and start redoing his stroke? No, as i said, but you don't seem to understand, so i repeat, his horrible stroke does not prevent him to be the great champion we all know.
Does his stroke keep me up at night? No, i sleep like a baby, but thanks for the consideration.
Don't i understand why he's playing better than me, even with that horrible stroke? No, i repeat just for you, he's playing so much better than me because he is a champion, and me just a beginner, not even an amateur, just a beginner! lol!.
Any more questions? I hope not.
Well i leave you, i have to go to my favorite poolhall to train and improve my stroke.
Lesson one : Only forearm moves.
Lesson two : No body english.
Discussion closed.

short, jerky strokes with alot of body english won't make shots consistently even for a champion. His stroke may look different but obviously effective. Maybe you're short and jerky. I'm just kiddin'.

Since its hard to find one pocket videos, I wanted to ask you 1p players out there a question. If you were playing someone 1p and spotting them a front and a back to your front pocket, which back pocket would u give them?
I've been having the same problem. I've been trying to watch the version with commentary for about five weeks now, but it won't download.
Actually, I have problems with lots of the videos. I might get 10 to 20 minutes, and then it just stops. Still, the matches I *am* able to watch are so great I keep on trying.
