/size]Cliff Joyner and Shane Van Boening showed off there excellent nearly magical defensive skills. Could you imagine being put on lock down by either of these champions?

What a great match that showed off all the qualities of a world class pool player. Both players were playing on the top of thier game. Both defense and offense. What a wicked combination to have to match. Thanks pro pool for a quality match as this. This match was better thaqn 90% of the ones on tv.

The Tiger Woods of pool is Efren Reyes. It looks like Shane can play a little bit. He has a good cueball and he gets out. He is not even close to being the most talented/knowledgable player in the world today. Champions come and go. Buddy Hall and Sigel used to play unreal good. They are in no danger of winning anything against world class competition. If you want to see genius in action, watch Reyes. He plays/played better than any human who has walked the face of the Earth. I doubt anyone will ever play a higher standard of pool. I'd bet my money on Reyes playing anyone in the world for 8+ hours.

What a phenomenal level of balanced concentration, that allowed both of these players to play at their best. Both of them could see the end of this match in their favor as long as lady luck was on their side. It provided us a very stimulating match. If it was a race to 21, we might have seen the stronger player. However, between these two, in this match, I find it hard to say. Shane has a very fine tuned "Killer instinkt", which allows him to stay on top of his game and claw back into the lead like a pissed off Tiger, when his opponent gets extremly unlucky, where another player might have given the table back to Cliff. Shane wanted the title just a wee bit more than Cliff and got it! Congratulations Shane! Keep it up, show us more because, you're not a legend yet!!

I too, think he could be the next best. We will see just how far his indurance will go? I have to say this was a great match though. I think both player's might have made 2 mistakes each in 24 games of pool, we are all human. But wow great shooting guys. See you in the finals at the next u.s open shane!

I think Shane can play a lot more than just a little bit, as 2007 and his results this far into 2008 have shown, but it's unfair to put him in the same sentence as Efren, who is the Michael Jordan of pool and will probably be the all-around best player who ever lived, judging from his skills in all pool games. This match was one of the best I've seen in a while though. Cliff Joyner deserves a lot of credit and the match was so much closer than the score indicates. One heavyweight just got in an extra punch here and there and the other had 1-2 more missed swings. Shane's cueball is a little better, but both of their defensive games are devastating.
