Good match! Robb is one of my favorite players to watch. Both players had ups and downs but the finish was very good. That out on the last rack was just awesome. Can't wait for the finals. :)

They mentioned the non-fiction book "playing off the rail" in this match. I just want to say I've read it twice and after the first time I never watched pool in the same mindset again. If you are interested in the modern history of the game then this book is for you. I was in awe with the authenticity in this book. Even if you don't know some of the names you will recognize the poolhall characters that exist in every poolhall in america. Anyway, great match

Looked like a blowout in the beginning, ended up being a fun match to watch

I really like how both players shoot. Rob is always smooth and Tony is very impressive as well. Thank you PPV!

Good match, Tony did a good comeback. The final rack impressed me!, the winner didn't choke at all.

Personnaly I don't like the three fouls rule. When you have ball in hand, you should try to open the table i think, not play safe again and again.

I think the three foul rule is only a problem when you run into people who will automatically go for three fouls, regardless of the lie of the table, once you scratch once. That annoys the heck out of me, at least have some confidence in your ability to run out.

I can see both sides of this coin, but if a player can bang away at balls and get lucky by having something drop (that's what annoys me), then I don't see the problem with somebody deliberately playing defense with a plan for victory. I'm not saying these players are "bangers" by any stretch, but if the rules can favor luck (admittedly rotation games aren't my favorite), then it shouldn't be wrong to favor purposeful defense. To tell the truth, the "3-foul" rack was the most entertaining for me to watch. Still a good match and fun to watch. More straight pool please

Like Im sure we all know, these players that we have the privelage to be able to watch on Propoolvideo.com are of the highest caliber. They have gone through years of turmoil and struggle to make their games what they are. That experience is evident when you see the choices they make in order to secure a win in any particular rack. Robb is definitely one of those players who has volumes of experience against the best players in the world. And I know from personal experience that when he analyzes a table and decides on a gameplan, his choices are usually the right ones. We all know he can run out with the best of them, but if a top level player decides to play safe and manages to three foul a player as proficient at the game as Tony Ruberto, then they well deserve the win for that rack. These players know how to win and they only utilize the rules to their advantage in order to do what they do best...win
Great match guys both of u did great

Well, i don't say that you should not play safe shots, i admire great defense shots as well as a beautiful break and run. To be honest, i think that safe shots are even harder to play than sinking balls. But what is 9 ball about? It's about sinking the 9, it's a game of attack. I prefer to watch Dennis Hatch running four racks than Rob Saez playing the three fouls rule.(Don't mistake, i like Rob very much, he's a great player).I'm going to watch the match again because i'm not sure any more, but i think that Rob could have open the table while he had ball in hand. That's what annoys me. Just play the three fouls rule when even with ball in hand there's no possibility to run the rack.

About straight pool, will there be more matches of the predator 14/1 championship?

We should have at least two more straight pool videos from the World 14.1 before the end of the year.

The 3-foul rule is the fairest and only way to play. It came about to prevent a player from purposely fouling over and over to avoid breaking out a set of balls that are tied up, causing a problem with running the rack.

Imagine 2 balls tied up on the rail. One player plays safe, and the other player makes a very half-hearted try to hit the ball... fearing he might break out the problem. Then the first player, with ball in hand, plays safe again. The other player makes a half-hearted attempt... or just hands him the ball. Now the first player has to play safe again... you get the idea. Without the 3-foul rule, the first player gets punished for playing a good safety (eventually). Hence the 3-foul rule. If you can force a player to give up ball-in-hand 3 times, you should win the game. Otherwise this pattern could go on forever.

By my count, Rob Saez shot .836 (56 balls, 11 errors) and Tony Ruberto shot .837 (72 balls, 14 errors).
